2.1 magnitude earthquake hits in Maryland

LINGANORE, Md. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a 2.1 magnitude earthquake in eastern Frederick County near the Carroll County line, but area residents likely didn’t even notice the minor quake.

USGS reports the earthquake happened around 6 a.m. Saturday. USGS says the epicenter was about three miles from Linganore, in Frederick County, and about 11 miles from Westminster in Carroll County.

Earthquakes with a magnitude of about 2.0 or less are usually called microearthquakes and are not commonly felt by people though they are recorded by instruments.
