Police spot, report fire
Prince George’s County fire officials say two police officers are to thank for spotting a Saturday fire at a College Park assisted living facility after the building’s alarm system failed.
The officers were on patrol when they spotted smoke on the sixth floor of the apartment complex. After alerting their dispatcher, the officers went inside the building, warned other residents and checked the apartment to ensure no one was in danger.
No one was injured in the incident, which may have been caused by an unattended candle, and officials are inspecting the alarm system.
