Two men charged in donations scam

Authorities are investigating a scheme in which marketers fraudulently claim to be representatives of the Montgomery County Police Department in order to solicit donations, authorities said. Police said Derek WiIliams, of Orange, N.J., and Daniel Earl Soat, of Pompano Beach, Fla., were operating as telephone solicitors for a Silver Spring company, police said. Both men were charged with fraud and theft. The marketers often conducted the solicitation under the name MCPD Post 2979 or a similar-named organization that does not exist, police said.Montgomery County Police would like to hear from anyone who might have been victimized by the alleged scam. Youth chased, fatally shot

A 17-year-old male was shot dead early Sunday in the 1600 block of Fort Dupont Street SE. As he was walking home he was approached by two suspects, one of whom pointed a gun at him. They chased him, threw him to the ground, and shot him. The armed suspect is described as black with a dark complexion, age 17 to 22, 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 200 pounds, with dreadlocks. The other suspect is a black male with a medium complexion, age 17 to 22, about 5 feet 8 and weighing between 170 and 180 pounds.

Man shot during robbery

A 25-year-old male was shot in his right wrist at about 12:35 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Eastern Avenue NE after being approached by a suspect who demanded his possessions. He was transported to a  hospital. The suspect is a black male between 19 to 20 years old, about 6 feet 1 and 180 to 190 pounds. He was wearing a white tank top and blue jeans.

Man shot multiple times

A 26-year-old male was shot at about 12:01 a.m. Sunday at 815 Chesapeake St. SE at the rear of the building. He sustained multiple wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he is in stable condition. The suspects are three black males driving a black four-door Nissan
