Sheldon Adelson donated to Ted Cruz following GOP convention debacle

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s re-election effort is getting financial support from billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam Adelson.

The two donated $10,400 each to the Ted Cruz Victory Committee on March 31, totaling $20,800, according to a quarterly Federal Election Commission filing on Thursday.

Adelson is a GOP megadonor who has contributed tens of millions of dollars to Republican causes. He and his wife each previously donated the legal limit, $2,700, to Cruz’s own presidential campaign back in Nov. 2015.

However, it was reported last summer by multiple news outlets that Adelson turned Cruz away from entering his donor suite after his speech at the Republican National Committee in which he notably refused to endorse the party’s presidential nominee, Donald Trump, whom Adelson supported. An aide to Adelson later said that Cruz had been invited to the suite, but that their meeting had been rescheduled.

The pro-Cruz fundraising effort has been going strong as he faces a potentially difficult primary and general election in 2018. His Senate re-election campaign, political action committee and the Ted Cruz Victory Committee has the financial backing of $5.2 million according to a Politico report earlier this week.
