Donald Trump quoted Carly Fiorina’s characterization of Ted Cruz as “just like any other politician” hours before Cruz was expected to name Fiorina as his running mate Wednesday.
In a tweet, Trump said that he “agreed” with Fiorina’s past assessment of Cruz, who is set to make the announcement at 4 p.m. during a campaign rally in Indiana.

“Ted Cruz is just like any other politician,” Fiorina said in the four second-long clip. “He says whatever he needs to say to get elected.”
The comments came during a January 3 interview with CNN less than a month before the Iowa caucuses, after a recording emerged of Cruz speaking to donors. In the recording, Cruz said that fighting gay marriage would not be a “top-three priority” after having previously said the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling ruling would be “front and center” in his campaign.
“I would say that Ted Cruz is just like any other politician,” Fiorina said. “He says one thing in Manhattan. He says another thing in Iowa. He says whatever he needs to say to get elected, and then he’s going to do as he pleases. I think the American people are tired of the political class that promises much and delivers much of the same.”
Fiorina endorsed Cruz on March 9 in Miami, only days before the Florida primary, in which Trump beat Sen. Marco Rubio and subsequently knocked him out of the race.
