The Biden administration has identified a group of “interpreters and translators” who will be moved out of Afghanistan for their safety ahead of the United States’s full troop withdrawal from the country.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki broke the news during Friday’s briefing but would not give details on which countries those individuals would be moved to while they complete the Special Immigrant Visa application process.
“BIDEN MUST BACK PLAN TO EVACUATE AFGHAN TRANSLATORS”
Psaki noted that all of the individuals were identified as “at-risk” following the troop withdrawal and that some had already fled the country as Taliban forces take back territory from the Afghan government.
“They will be relocated to a location outside of Afghanistan before we complete our military drawdown by September in order to complete the visa application process,” Psaki clarified. “These are individuals who are already in the SIV pipeline.”
