D.C. warns of aftershocks after 5.8 quake

The United States Geological Survey says to expect aftershocks from the 5.8-magnitude earthquake earthquake that struck the Washington area Tuesday afternoon.

According to the USGS., the earthquake struck at 1:51 p.m. and was centered near Mineral, Va. which is located about 39 miles northwest of Richmond and 87 miles southwest of the District.

 D.C. emergency officials say there have been no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.

 In the case of another temblor, D.C. officials said to take cover under a desk, table, bed or door frames. Stay clear of windows and other glass. If you are outdoors find areas clear of buildings. Stay tuned to news updates.
