BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) — A man who spent about 10 hours inside an oil pipeline under construction in southern Michigan is expected to face trial.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports (http://bcene.ws/1Cgy37o ) prosecutors and a lawyer for Christopher Wahmhoff told Calhoun County Circuit Judge James Kingsley on Monday they haven’t reached a plea agreement. A trial date wasn’t set.
The Kalamazoo man is a Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate. He’s charged with obstructing police and trespassing during the June 24, 2013, protest at an Enbridge site near Marshall.
The protest was part of an effort to halt the Canadian company from building a new line. The site is near where a line ruptured in 2010, spilling 800,000 gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River system. The line runs from Sarnia, Ontario, to Griffith, Indiana.
