Massachusetts Sen. and Democratic presidential contender Elizabeth Warren stopped short of calling President Trump a racist on Tuesday when asked by the media.
“Look at [Trump’s] remarks. He’s made racist remarks, and he’s been racially hateful to people. That’s what matters,” said Warren.
“But is he racist?” the reporter again asked.
“I don’t have to look at his heart. That’s not the point. Look at what he’s done. It’s racist what he’s done. Over and over and over. It’s not the first time.”
Warren has had a checkered past with her own ethnic heritage. For years, Warren claimed to have been part Cherokee, citing her “high cheekbones.” She contributed a recipe to a 1984 cookbook entitled Pow Wow Chow.
Trump branded Warren with the nickname “Pocahontas” after scandals emerged that she had officially listed her ethnicity as “Native American” on applications to the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law School.
In 2018, Trump pledged to donate $1 million to charity if Warren took a DNA test to prove her Native American heritage and released the results to the public.
Warren complied and called on the president to send a check to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.
I took this test and released the results for anyone who cares to see because I’ve got nothing to hide. What are YOU hiding, @realDonaldTrump? Release your tax returns – or the Democratic-led House will do it for you soon enough. Tick-tock, Mr President.
