A Delaware man is facing federal charges after he allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a Planned Parenthood office.
Samuel Gulick, 18, allegedly threw the explosive at the office in Newark, Delaware, last week. Investigators said Monday that the explosion didn’t cause much damage but started a brief fire that self-extinguished, according to ABC News.
Authorities said that a suspect was also caught on surveillance footage spray-painting the Latin phrase, “Deus Vult,” meaning, “God wills it,” in red letters on the outside of the building. The phrase was the rallying cry of the First Crusade in A.D. 1096.
Video from the incident shows a suspect pulling the incendiary device from a plastic bag, lighting it, and throwing it at the office’s front door.
Gulick was arrested by the FBI, identified by the vehicle investigators said he fled the scene of the crime in. Prosecutors said that Gulick had a history of anti-abortion social media posts.
Gulick was charged with maliciously damaging a building used in interstate commerce, intentionally damaging a facility that provides reproductive health services, and possession of an unregistered destructive device.
He faces five to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if he is convicted of the charges.
