Rockville teacher now working with feds

Whatever they’re putting in the water, Rockville is growing some serious educators.

The U.S. Department of Education named Gregory Mullenholz, a teacher adviser at Twinbrook Elementary School, one of 16 Teaching Ambassador Fellows nationwide.

Amid 750 essay applications from public, charter and private schools, Mullenholz was just one of five full-time Fellows, meaning he’s now a full-time employee of the U.S. Department of Education.

He will work on teacher quality issues in Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s office. (Eleven fellows are part-time and remain in their clasrooms.)

In its fourth year, the Teaching Ambassador Fellowship program gives highly qualified teachers a platform to learn about national education, while drawing upon the teachers’ expertise to improve policy.

Mullenholz and the other fellows began a four-day summit at the U.S. Department of Education headquarters on Monday.
