Prosecutors oppose more visits for Hinckley

Federal prosecutors are opposing John Hinckley Jr.‘s request for more unsupervised visits to his mother’s home.

Hinckley tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in March 1981 and has been committed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital since he was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

His lawyers asked for a judge to grant him more visits to his mother’s home last month. But in court papers filed this week, prosecutors opposed that request, saying Hinckley gave no reason why he should receive more visits than the 12 he was granted in 2009. He has used up those visits.

Hinckley shot Reagan as the president was leaving the Washington Hilton in Dupont Circle.
