Rubio: Muslim ban ‘doesn’t solve anything’

Sen. Marco Rubio on Wednesday reiterated his opposition to Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the U.S., by saying a ban wouldn’t have prevented the Orlando nightclub shooting conducted by a U.S. citizen.

“The killer was born in the same place Donald was: Queens,” the Florida Republican said. He was referring to Omar Mateen, who killed 49 people and injured 53 at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, early Sunday.

Rubio said after a briefing on the Zika virus that he has opposed the ban on Muslims since it was first proposed by Trump. The presumptive GOP nominee re-emphasized the need for the ban in a speech on Monday after the shooting.

“It just doesn’t solve anything,” Rubio said.

However, the Florida senator declined to rescind his endorsement of Trump.
