Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak accused President Trump of not caring about his supporters because of a massive indoor rally he held in his state on Sunday.
“He had a rally [in Nevada] with several thousand people yesterday. He cared about himself being protected. He didn’t care about the other thousands of people that were in there and the 3 million residents I have in the state of Nevada that are at potential of having disease transmitted because of what he did,” the Democrat told CNN on Monday.
“He only cares about himself, and he knows what the rules are. This isn’t he can’t say he didn’t know. He knew what the rules were. He chose to show callous disregard in a reckless, selfish, irresponsible way. There is no other way to put it,” he added.
Trump has held several rallies in recent months that have featured packed crowds with few people adhering to social distancing guidelines designed to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Trump said over the weekend that he is “not at all concerned” about catching the virus while at a rally.
Sisolak said Trump violated state ordinances by hosting an event Sunday evening in Nevada that had more than 50 attendees and minimal use of face masks. The event at a facility run by Xtreme Manufacturing, a construction equipment company, was Trump’s first indoor rally since his controversial June campaign gathering in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“That’s just the ego and the arrogance. That is just a joke. We don’t make up laws and say they apply to everybody except Donald J. Trump. We just don’t do things like that. It is absurd for him to think that the rules didn’t apply to him. Where he got that idea is beyond me. I think he just doesn’t much care,” Sisolak said.
