Ever since the world got wind of Whitney Houston’s drug use, people have blamed Bobby Brown for getting her habit started.
And when news broke that Whitney died in February, there were a lot of fingers pointing at Bobby for that drug use stemming from their time together ultimately leading to her demise.
But during his first interview since the pop star’s death, Bobby says the accusations are way off base.
Bobby sat down with Matt Lauer on “Today” and told the host, “I think if anyone ever knew us, if anybody ever spent time around us … they would know how we felt about each other. They would know how happy we were together.”
The New Edition singer told Matt that he wasn’t the one who introduced Whitney to drugs. “I didn’t get high before I met Whitney,” he says. “I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs at all.”
Bobby claimed that Whitney used drugs “way before” she met him. “It’s just unexplainable. … I’m not the reason she’s gone.”
And despite the couple’s divorce in 2007, Bobby said they saw each other about a week before she was found dead in her hotel room.
“She had this glow about her that was just, you know, incredible,” he says, noting that Whitney was cracking jokes with him and their daughter. “She looked really well. She just looked like she was in a good place.”
And according to Us Weekly, when the coroner’s report confirmed there was cocaine in Whitney’s system at the time of her death, Bobby, who says he’s been off drugs for seven years, was hurt. “I didn’t know she was struggling with it still. It’s a hard fight to maintain sobriety that way.”
Congraatulaations
Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard are parents to another daughter.
The couple welcomed a baby girl, Gloria Ray, last week in New York City, Maggie’s rep confirmed to People magazine.
Gloria joins their first daughter, Ramona, 5.
The actors, who wed in 2009, announced the pregnancy in November and the sex of the baby in March, People says.
“I find it difficult to pretend you’re not pregnant, which I had to do,” Maggie said recently. “I didn’t let anyone know until three and a half months this time.”
So over it
It looks like one of Jennifer Aniston’s exes is ready to let her go for good. At least in song, anyway.
A source tells Us that John Mayer’s new song, “Shadow Days” is a farewell letter to Jen.
“It really took him a long time to get over her. He really loved her a lot,” the source said. “He wrote the song as a farewell letter knowing [Jen] would hear it. Ultimately he’s done a lot of self-reflection though and he realizes they weren’t right for each other.”
The singer and the actress were in an on-again off-again romance between early 2008 and late 2009. Jen has been dating actor Justin Theroux for over a year now, and the two appear to be very serious, even buying a house together earlier this year.
The source went on to say that John is done dating celebrities. “He’s looking for a nice, nonfamous girl he can relate to.”
