RNC chairwoman dares Republicans to primary Trump: ‘Go ahead and lose’

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel on Thursday dared Republicans to challenge President Trump in the 2020 primary, and predicted anyone who tried would “lose horribly.”

“They have the right to jump in and lose, that’s fine,” she said at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland on Thursday. “Have at it. Waste your time, waste your money, and go ahead and lose.”

That was her response when asked what the party’s response would be if Trump got a primary challenger in the 2020 presidential election. She noted that Trump has a 93 percent approval rating among Republicans, and it would be nonsensical for any Republican to run against that record.

Governor Larry Hogan, R-Md., has admitted he has mulled a possible primary challenge to Trump. Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who ran against Trump in the 2016 Republican primary, is also said to be considering a run in 2020, along with former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld.

McDaniel also took swipes at Democratic presidential hopefuls, including former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke and former Vice President Joe Biden.
