Fox News calls House control for Democrats

Fox News projected shortly after 9 p.m. that Democrats would take control of the House of Representatives, even as votes were still being counted Tuesday.

Results on Election Day had so far been mixed, as Democrats flipped some congressional seats while Republicans maintained others.

It was still unclear that there was any “blue wave” that some had anticipated, which would have swept Republicans out of power, potentially in both houses of Congress and in high-profile gubernatorial races across the country.

Most polls leading up to Election Day had predicted Democrats would take the House, leaving the Senate as a toss-up.

As the night wore on, closely watched races were still close, such as the governor races in Georgia and Florida.

Certain critical races did see flips in party control, like Rep. Barbara Comstock’s seat in Virginia, which went from Republican to Democrat.

On CNN, anchor Jake Tapper said, “It is entirely possible that the Democrats will regain control of the House today, but I have to say, when you look at what’s going on here tonight, this is not a blue wave.”
