McDonnell: Rams have “two more big wins left in them”

Virginia Commonwealth University stunned the college basketball world (and ruined many a bracket in office pools) with its 71-61 win Sunday over the No. 1-seeded Kansas Jayhawks.

And to the victor go the spoils.

Not only did Head Coach Shaka Smart lead his No. 11 Rams to the Final Four, where they will take on the Butler Bulldogs in the national semifinals, but he also got a congratulatory phone call from Gov. Bob McDonnell (pictured in a Notre Dame sweatshirt, naturally).

Below is McDonnell’s statement on VCU’s win:

“I want to congratulate Virginia Commonwealth University on their historic win against the Kansas University Jayhawks. Virginians are celebrating their victory all across the commonwealth. VCU is a great university with a well deserved reputation for academic and athletic excellence. We all look forward to cheering them on in the Final Four next weekend. I know they’ve got two more big wins left in them. Head Coach Shaka Smart and this group of talented student athletes are doing a tremendous job representing their school and community. Go Rams!”
