Brother of alleged Las Vegas shooter ‘completely dumbfounded’

The brother of Las Vegas shooting suspect Stephen Paddock said Monday that his family was “horrified” to hear about the role his family member is believed to have played in the largest mass shooting in U.S. history Sunday night.

Eric Paddock of Orlando, Fla., said he had “no idea” why his 64-year-old brother would have carried out the attack.”We’re bewildered and our condolences go out to the victims,” Paddock told Reuters. “We have no idea in the world.””Mars just fell into the earth,” Paddock told NBC News. “We’re completely dumbfounded.”Paddock described his now-deceased brother as a person who was “just a guy” and recalled he would gamble and attend shows at hotels on the Las Vegas Strip.At least 50 people were killed and 406 others wounded after Paddock opened fire on concertgoers at an outdoor show on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday night, police said.Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Monday Paddock is believed to have rained gunfire down on the Route 91 Harvest country music festival from his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said SWAT officers responding to the call breached his hotel room and found Paddock dead. Paddock used unspecified rifles to carry out the attack.The FBI is investigating the attack with local law enforcement, but has not called it a terrorist attack.
