UPDATE, 5:16 p.m.: Police identified the man as 51-year-old Ricardo Antonio Levia Aldana and said his death appears to be accidental. Aldana tried to cross the tracks after a CSX freight train passed on one set of tracks, and was then struck by a MARC train that was traveling the opposite direction.
ORIGINAL POST: A pedestrian was fatally struck by a MARC train in Gaithersburg on Friday evening.
The person was hit by a train that was traveling toward Frederick near North Frederick Avenue and West Diamond Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to Montgomery County police.
No further information about the person was available Saturday morning.
It wasn’t immediately known whether the person committed suicide or was the victim of an accident.
