Fox Business host Trish Regan went after Congress for failing to take action on guns and criticized the National Rifle Association for trying to scare Americans into thinking background checks will lead to their guns being taken away.
“… absolutely inept Congress. It’s very clear Congress is repeatedly failing us. Whether it be on immigration, whether it be on trade, whether it be on healthcare, or whether it be on guns, you take your pick,” Regan told her viewers on Wednesday, saying Congress fights for lobbying from the “NRA and gun companies that want to convince you that a ban on assault weapons or having more vigilant background checks would mean you would be strip of your Second Amendment right. Not true.”
Regan conceded that universal background checks “may not do a thing to stem these mass killings. If you are that filled with hate, there are plenty of ways to do damage that don’t involve guns … In poll after poll after poll the vast majority of Americans, they say we need better background checks. Why the heck don’t we have them?”
Regan also called for President Trump to ban “assault weapons” on her personal Twitter account.
.@realDonaldTrump has a major opportunity: he can BAN assault weapons and envoke strict gun laws and backgrnd checks in one executive order. To heck w/ lobbyists at NRA – the majority of Americans and common sense supports this! It’s time to do what is right for our country.

We need to ban assault weapons — except at shooting ranges.. There is no place for them in today’s society. Period. If it’s a sport — go practice at the range. No need to keep them around the house.

The House of Representatives passed H.R. 8 earlier this year, which would require universal background checks on gun purchases. The Senate, under the leadership of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has not moved the bill to the floor.
Dayton, Ohio Mayor Nan Whaley, where one of the shootings occurred over the weekend, told reporters after meeting with Trump that she expects more mass shootings until Congress passes more gun legislation.
