Progressive advocacy group Americans United for Change responded to Ted Cruz ending his presidential campaign by blasting the likely GOP nominee Donald Trump.
AUC President Brad Woodhouse claimed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to cooperate with President Obama on a Supreme Court nomination because he wants to wait until Trump wins the White House.
“It’s official, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are refusing to do their jobs because they want Donald trump — a racist, sexist, misogynistic, nativist, isolationist, pathological liar who said he would date his daughter if they weren’t related and won’t rule out using nuclear weapons in the Middle East to make the next appointment to the Supreme Court. This suicide pact is bad for our constitution and for America but at least it ensures that Republicans will go down to ignominious defeat in November,” Woodhouse wrote in an email late Tuesday.
Woodhouse, the former communications director for the Democratic National Committee, did not provide additional information explaining how McConnell would have colluded to delay the process until the new year.
The GOP-controlled Senate has shown little interest in considering Judge Merrick Garland for the highest court. The court has only had eight members since Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died in February.
