Trump latest in long line of obese presidents

President Trump is far from the first U.S. president to be considered obese.

Trump is 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs 243 pounds, according to a statement released by the White House physician Thursday. That places his body mass index, or BMI, at about 30.4, making him technically obese.

There were five presidents before him to fall into that category.

William Howard Taft had a BMI of 42.3, according to a 2011 Forbes column.

Grover Cleveland’s BMI was 34.6, William McKinley’s was 31.1, Zachary Taylor’s was 30.2, and Teddy Roosevelt’s was also 30.2.

Bill Clinton was overweight but not considered obese, with a BMI of 28.3. Since leaving office, Clinton lost weight by eating a vegan diet after he underwent heart surgery in 2010.

Trump has put on 4 pounds since his medical exam last year. After his 2018 medical exam, Trump was advised to eat healthier and exercise. In response, Trump said he golfed as his primary exercise.
