Howard?s dedication to arts earns honors

The county government was honored this week for its dedication to the arts and culture.

Americans for the Arts, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the arts, and the National Association of Counties presented the county with the 2007 Public Leadership in the Arts Award.

The award was given July 16 at the NACO?s summer conference in Richmond.

Howard government was chosen for its support of the arts and incorporating culture into the county?s economic development plan, Americans for the Arts said.

Since 2000, Howard has ranked as one of the top three counties in the state for per capita funding designated for the arts. An 8.2 percent increase for arts funding was approved for the fiscal 2008 budget.
