Fire investigators are canvassing Montgomery County’s Twinbrook neighborhood after a string of recent fires that might point to arson.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a housefire at 13005 Ardennes Ave., in Rockville, early Wednesday morning. The fire was quickly contained, but neighbors are suspicious.

“The same house started fire twice. It was the top floor the first time, and the bottom the second time,” said Melody Blersch, a real estate agent who lives a block away. The earlier incident was a month ago.

County fire investigators also said a Nov. 8 fire at 5721 Denfield St., only two blocks away, was set intentionally. The investigators are looking into both cases.

Some think those fires, and eight other recent blazes in the neighborhood, might be related.

“The people I’ve talked to didn’t even know about the other fires,” Blersch said.

The other incidents included house fires and so-called nuisance fires, such as flaming leaves or garbage.

Fire investigators reached several hundred residents in their canvassing effort, according to a statement from a fire department spokesman.
