South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s presidential candidate town hall with Fox News on Sunday had almost double the viewers of CNN’s town hall with him, according to Early Nielsen Media Research.
The town hall, hosted by Chris Wallace, averaged 1.1 million viewers and 172,000 in the critical 25-54 demographic during the 7 p.m. hour. CNN’s town hall with Buttigieg that occurred on March 10 averaged 545,000 viewers.
The town hall also had more viewers than “CNN Newsroom” and “Kasie DC” combined during the same hour.
Fox News’ town hall with Buttigieg also means it had more viewers than the town halls CNN hosted with Sens. Elizabeth Warren., D-Mass., Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., all of which occurred on weekdays.
In response to their ratings with candidates, CNN has stated they do “not host presidential town halls for ratings. We host them because substantive conversations with presidential candidates inform and empower voters to make the best possible choices for their families and communities.”
