NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — Educators are planning for a school closed for this year to become a magnet school for the Natchez-Adams School District.
The Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/OKO9Qf) that the structurally unsound Robert Lewis Middle School was closed by the school board for renovations.

Superintendent Frederick Hill says plans are to reopen it next year as a magnet school focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Magnet schools have a specific theme or mission that drives their curriculum, such as fine arts or science. Magnet schools still must be racially balanced.
The district will decide in the coming year if the magnet program will be for grades kindergarten through fifth or sixth through 12th.
The decision to close the school came before Hill was hired.
