Pussy Riot is a high-profile group of Russian feminists who initially found fame after being detained for their āpunk prayerā protest against Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscowās Cathedral of Christ the Savior. They also disrupted the 2018 World Cup final between France and Croatia and were beaten by Russian Cossack militia members for demonstrating at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
This isnāt the first time members of the band have waded into U.S. political waters. In 2016, Nadya Tolokonnikova threw her support behind Bernie Sanders telling Rolling Stone, āI want to ask all people who ⦠couldnāt decide anything to go and vote for Bernie.ā Members of the group also visited Bernie Sandersās campaign office and donned a Bernie for president T-shirt.

Over the past decade, the group has relentlessly protested the Kremlin, and Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina went on a hunger strike during her imprisonment for participating in the āpunk prayerā protest. Members have called for improved policing and less corruption in Russia.
