One person is dead after a party boat in Texas capsized during a storm over the weekend, officials said.
The boat toppled Saturday on Lake Conroe at around 8 p.m., roughly 40 miles north of Houston. Fifty-three people were on board, according to Kirk McDonnell, a spokesman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The vessel had been traveling around the lake for nearly 40 minutes of a 90-minute cruise when it capsized due to high winds. A local weather report indicated thunderstorms were in the forecast for Saturday. Some passengers said they could see rough and choppy water before the boat turned on its side, according to Click2Houston.
Photos of the boat show it turned on its side in the water.
