NEW YORK (AP) — Three of the five men who were wrongly convicted in the 1989 Central Park jogger attack say a $40 million settlement can’t give them back what they lost.
Kevin Richardson broke down in tears Friday as talked about being called “an animal.” He said it still hurts.
Richardson attended a City Hall press conference Friday with Raymond Santana and Yusef Salem.
Santana said the men suffered “unbelievable” injustice.
The city has approved a tentative settlement of about $40 million. It now requires a judge’s approval.
The black and Hispanic defendants were convicted as teenagers in the attack on a white investment banker.
They served six to 13 years in prison. Their convictions were thrown out because of evidence that someone else, acting alone, committed the crime.
