WATCH LIVE: Ralph Northam addresses racist yearbook photo

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, is issuing a statement to address the growing calls for his resignation after a racist photo on his medical school yearbook page of two men in blackface and Ku Klux Klan attire surfaced Friday.

The 59-year-old pediatric neurologist said Friday he was “deeply sorry” for the photo showing two men in the racist costumes that appeared on a 1984 Eastern Virginia Medical School yearbook page. The Democrat did not identify which person he was in the photo — an admission he has since walked back — and has ignored the calls for him to step down.

Northam has reportedly said privately that he does not think he is either of the two men featured on his high school’s yearbook page. His statement on the situation comes hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined a long list of state and national Democratic figures calling for his resignation.
