Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said it was appropriate for Al Franken to resign now due to sexual harassment allegations before a Senate ethics probe is completed.
He said the situation was different from Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., who is also under an ethics probe. Unlike Franken, Senate Democrats have not called on Menendez to step down before his investigation is completed.
“Bob Menendez underwent a lengthy trial and there was a hung jury,” Sanders said on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” referring to Menendez’s trial for corruption that resulted in a mistrial.
Franken faced eight accusations of sexual harassment, including groping women and forcing women to kiss him.
After the latest allegation earlier this week that he tried to kiss a former Democratic aide, 30 Democratic senators called on Franken to resign.
