Parts of Virginia experience icy, snowy roads

A winter storm brought snow to parts of Virginia, and precipitation started to cover roads across western and southwest Virginia as temperatures continued to fall.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reported some traffic accidents on snowy and icy roads, including parts of Interstate 81, as it got colder Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service predicted that 2 to 6 inches could fall in southwest Virginia, with the higher elevations getting more snow.

Snow flurries fell Sunday night in parts of the Washington metro area, especially south of Interstate 66, although no accumulation was expected in most areas.

Monday’s high is expected to reach 48 degrees in Washington under sunny skies.
