A Maryland woman died Saturday morning after the pickup truck she was driving struck a tractor-trailer in Loudoun County, authorities said.
Barbara Whitener, 27, of Olney, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police. The tractor-trailer’s driver, Richard Poole of Zebulon, N.C., was treated for minor injuries at Landsdowne Hospital.
Shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday, a Virginia State Police trooper was called to Route 15 about one mile south of Harmony Church Road. Police said that the pickup truck had been traveling north on Route 15 when it crossed the center line and hit the south-bound tractor-trailer in its driver’s side fuel tank.
