The Virginia Department of Transportation will begin advertising its plan to fix a crumbling bridge on Glebe Road over Route 50 next week.

VDOT spokesman Jennifer McCord told ARLnow.com that the department will speed up the process to get the bridge, which has been falling apart for more than two years, repaired quickly. The $6 million construction project could be complete by August 2012.

The bridge first attracted attention two years ago, when concrete fell onto Route 50 below. It happened again last Friday, shutting down the bridge and parts of Glebe Road for an hour during rush hour.
