Shooting leaves man paralyzed

Herve Massaba moved from Africa to Pikesville a year ago ? looking for a better life.

He began attending college. He worked nights. He hoped to become an electrical engineer.

But coming home from work last week, Massaba?s dreams were violently interrupted.

On Thursday at 11:37 p.m., Massaba, 24, was walking in the 3700 block of Rolling Road in Windsor Mill after taking an MTA bus from his job to go home when four males began chasing him.

Massaba was shot once in the upper torso while running from the assailants.

He was taken to Northwest Hospital and later transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he remained in poor condition Monday.

The injury will leave Massaba paralyzed from the neck down, police said.

Investigators describe the assailants only as males between the ages of 17 and 27.
