Jeff Daniels goes full Will McAvoy on Trump-Clinton matchup

Actor Jeff Daniels went on a tirade reminiscent of the one his character on HBO’s “The Newsroom” did during a fake Bloomberg Politics interview about Hillary Clinton’s chances in a presidential race against Donald Trump.

During the first scene of the first episode of “The Newsroom,” Daniels’ news anchor Will McAvoy was asked by a college student at a panel why America is the greatest country on Earth, which led him to rant about why the U.S. no longer holds that title.

For the Bloomberg Politics parody, the interviewer kicked things off with this question: “What makes Donald Trump the best-case scenario for Hillary Clinton?”

As the question sank in with Daniels, dramatic music started playing in the background. Someone held up a sign in Daniels’ eye-line which read, “He’s not,” just like the way Emily Mortimer’s MacKenzie McHale forced McAvoy to tell the truth about America in the original scene.

After the interviewer goaded Daniels to answer, he snapped, “Because he’s not the best-case scenario John, that’s my answer.”

He described Trump as a “fact-bending loose cannon who alienates mainstream voters with everything he says,” but one that is shockingly skilled at getting his message out to a large audience.

“But the fact is, he gets voters. He gets mainstream media attention for free,” Daniels said. “There won’t be a day from now until November where Trump isn’t on every TV channel.”

Daniels listed a few countries that have already elected women as their presidents, like Germany and Brazil, to illustrate why Clinton’s “woman card” won’t help her much in the general election.

“Twenty-two sovereign states have already beaten us on this,” he said.

He went on to list a few statistics about how many people find Clinton to be untrustworthy and dishonest, as well as a how unexcited many Democrats are to have her as their party’s nominee.

Daniels ended the video with a very blunt assessment of this potential general election matchup.

“When you ask what makes Trump the best-case scenario for Hillary, I don’t know what the f—k you’re talking about. His tiny hands?” he said.

Though “The Newsroom” ended in 2014, Will McAvoy, MacKenzie McHale, Maggie Jordan, Jim Harper and the rest of the Atlantis Cable News team live on through Twitter accounts that continue covering the news.
