Planners hope teamwork equals BRAC funding

Planners hope teamwork will create faster funding of needed projects around Fort Meade in Anne Arundel.

The eight counties and two cities surrounding Fort Meade are being asked to pick the three priorities likely to be affected by the estimated 20,000 jobs resulting from the Base Realignment and Closure process.

The Fort Meade Growth Committee will focus grant-seeking efforts on the common issues, said Kent Menser, Howard?s BRAC coordinator, at a recent committee meeting.

The jurisdictions include Anne Arundel, Howard, Baltimore, Carroll, Prince George?s, Montgomery, Queen Anne?s and Kent counties, and the cities of Baltimore and Laurel.

Menser also is asking each county to adopt a uniform legal document to make it easier and faster for the group to seek federal grants for studies. The committee will seek residents? feedback on issues such as transportation, housing and emergency services.

Governments have two weeks to pick their priorities.
