Ohio Gov. John Kasich participated in a meeting Thursday that is geared towards keeping him apprised of world affairs should he decide to run for the White House in 2020.
Sources told BuzzFeed News that the Republican governor privately met with foreign policy and national security experts in Columbus, Ohio, for hours during the day — the first of a series of meetings.
They acknowledged that the meeting was set up with the anticipation that Kasich would attempt another presidential run, though he has yet to decide for sure.
They also divulged the identity of at least one attendee: King Mallory, a national security adviser for Kasich’s failed 2016 campaign who helped set up the meeting.
This past weekend Kasich said he was unsure about his future political ambitions. Though he has already denied rumors that he and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper are planning a bipartisan 2020 ticket, he has left the door open to some sort of campaign.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do tomorrow,” Kasich said on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” when asked if he would campaign again to be president.
