Canadians wouldn’t vote for Trudeau again: ‘The PM has looked weak’

A majority of Canadians said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has “looked weak” in his dealings with the truckers’ Freedom Convoy protests while also expressing frustration over his approach, noting it has only “inflamed the situation.”

A new Maru poll showed that only 16% of Canadians would vote again for Trudeau as prime minister.

“Half (48%) of Canadians think the Prime Minister has demonstrated that he is not up to the job of being prime minister,” the poll noted.

The results also indicated that Canadians are growing tired of the protests taking place in Ottawa and across the country, with 64% of Canadians desiring the protests to be stopped immediately.

The Maru poll follows an Angus Reid Institute poll showing that Canadians are equally fatigued by COVID-19 mandates and restrictions.

“A majority (54%) now say it is time to remove restrictions and let Canadians manage their own level of risk, an increase of 15 percentage points since this question was asked in early January,” ARI noted in its report.

The polls come as the Canadian truckers’ Freedom Convoy moves into its third week of protesting in Ottawa.

A small group of counterprotesters took to the capital city’s streets Sunday to express how they are disappointed the Freedom Convoy is still going.

The protests began in late January after a group of truckers and their supporters drove from Western Canada to Ottawa to challenge a regulation that requires truckers returning from the United States to show proof of vaccination. The Freedom Convoy has grown to protest all COVID-19 mandates.
