“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling posted a message to Twitter Monday morning expressing her heartbreak over one of the victims of Sunday’s mass shooting in Orlando, Fla., who had a connection to her wizarding world.
Rowling said she “can’t stop crying” as she remembered Luis Velma, a 22-year-old who worked on Universal Studios’ Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Velma posted on social media the night he died about going to Orlando gay nightclub Pulse, which became the site of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
“We are deeply saddened over the loss of our team member,” said Bill Davis, president and chief operating officer of Universal Orlando. “We are working to support his friends and colleagues here at Universal Orlando. Our thoughts and prayers are with Luis, his family and all the victims of this tragedy.”
A few people who knew Velma tweeted at Rowling sharing their memories of one of the 49 people Omar Mateen killed earlier Sunday morning.
Trust me, you would have loved him. He was the guy in the breakroom you liked four seconds after walking in.
