Sesame Place park in Philadelphia is facing threats of a lawsuit over its alleged racist treatment of two black girls over the weekend.
Leslie Mac, the great aunt to one of the girls who faced the alleged discrimination, posted a video of the interaction on TikTok, showing the bilingual character Rosita waving off hugs from the two girls during what seemed to be a parade. Mac would go on to allege that the character later hugged white children.
“My Great-Niece & her cute lil friends went to Sesame Place this weekend to celebrate her 4th birthday & this is how Sesame Place treated these beautiful Black children,” Mac captioned the video. “I’m HOT.”

Mother to one of the girls, Jodi Brown, appeared in a television interview Tuesday alongside her lawyer B’Ivory Lamar to share the update that a lawsuit is “is on the table.”
“We hope to resolve this matter short of litigation,” Lamar said. “I mean, the family is very clear what their expectations [are]. They want a formal apology. They want the individual to be terminated. And thirdly, you know, this mental anguish that has been perpetuated upon these young 6-year-old girls is something that should be addressed also by the theme park.”
Both Mac and Lamar reported that they have received several complaints about children’s treatment at the park since coming out with the story.
The theme park responded to the allegations in an Instagram post Monday.
“The performer portraying the Rosita character has confirmed that the ‘no’ hand gesture seen several times in the video was not directed to any specific person, rather it was a response to multiple requests from someone in the crowd for Rosita to hold their child for a photo which is not permitted,” its caption reads. “The Rosita performer did not intentionally ignore the girls and is devastated about the misunderstanding.”
