DC attorney general issues latest subpoena to Trump inaugural committee

President Trump’s inaugural committee was subpoenaed by the attorney general for the District of Columbia, who is scrutinizing how the committee used the $107 million raised for the president’s inauguration and how it was spent.

According to the subpoena, Attorney General Karl Racine and his team are examining whether funds “were wasted, mismanaged, and/or improperly provided private benefit, causing the committee to exceed or abuse its authority or act contrary to its nonprofit purpose.”

The New York Times reports the subpoena also presses for documents detailing the involvement of Trump’s children Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Eric Trump with the committee.

It also seeks information concerning payments to the Trump Organization or the Trump International Hotel, such as documents addressing the “pricing of venue rentals.” The Trump International Hotel received $1.5 million from the committee for rooms and other things.

Similarly, it requests information on whether any committee official or officials business received any payments, and whether any committee officials has financial interest in any vendor agreements.

A spokesman for the committee told the Times it was in contact with Racine’s team. A spokesman for Racine declined to comment on the matter.

The Trump inauguration committee has received subpoena requests from two other governmental authorities, as D.C. joins federal prosecutors in Manhattan who are evaluating if foreigners illegally donated to the committee, and New Jersey’s attorney general who appears to be investigating if the committee followed civil statues stipulating how the nonprofit organization fundraises.
