The Baltimore County School System and board celebrated the achievements of 200 students, teachers, parents and community partners last week at the annual Spring Recognition Ceremony at Cockeysville Middle School.
Owings Mills High School junior Sarah Koteen was honored Wednesday night after her selection in March by the Baltimore County Commission for Women as the 2006 Baltimore County Young Woman of the Year. A National Honor Society Member and varsity athlete, Koteen has volunteered at Our Daily Bread, Moveable Feast and the Levindale Nursing Home. She?s raised money the Crohn?s and Colitis Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Owings Mills High School PTSA and she helped start the Teen Leadership Club, which mobilizes peers in community service.
Others receiving recognition included the Randallstown High School boys basketball state championship squad coached by Kim Rivers and William Wiley, Towson High?s state champion boys soccer team coached by Randy Dase and Ben Berquist, and Eastern Tech girls soccer state title squad coached by Kimberly Williams and Susan Bangert.
Also honored were Rebecca Brashewitz of Towson High, the Top Designer for the 2nd Annual Baltimore County Waterfront Festival; Loch Raven Academy?s first- and second-place Black Saga Competition teams; Margaret Paul of Towson High, the Chesapeake Bay Trust Teacher of the Year; and Capt. Thomas Busch of the Office of Safe & Drug-Free Schools and the BCPS Safe Schools liaison, who won the Baltimore County Police Foundation Award.
