Clinton on Nice attack: ‘We will not be intimidated’

Hillary Clinton insisted late Thursday night that the world “will not be intimidated” by what appears to be another terrorist attack in Nice, France.

“Once again, it appears that terrorists have struck at one of our closest allies in Europe, attacking families celebrating the history and culture of their country on Bastille Day,” she said. “Every American stands in strong solidarity with the people of France, and we say with one voice: we will not be intimidated.”

“We will never allow terrorists to undermine the egalitarian and democratic values that underpin our very way of life,” Clinton added. “This cowardly attack only strengthens our commitment to our alliance and to defeating terrorism around the world.”

Immediately after the attacks, Clinton called in to Fox News and said the U.S. and Europe need to “understand that this is a war against these terrorist groups, the radical jihadist groups.” She called on NATO to crack down on terror threats in the Middle East and Europe, and said the U.S. and its allies need to see this is a “different kind of war.”

Trump said he would do more to make it harder for people to enter the U.S. from “terrorist areas,” and said terrorist groups need to be dealt with “very harshly.”

The Nice tragedy is just the latest France has suffered in the past 18 month. An attack in November killed 130 people in Paris, and in January, 2015, 12 people were killed by a terrorist at the Charlie Hebdo magazine office in Paris.
