PHILADELPHIA — President Trump’s claims of voter fraud in November’s election and the controversy over his spokesman disputing estimates of the crowd size for his inauguration “are distractions,” Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said Wednesday.
Trump’s focus on creating jobs and Americans’ approval of his actions so far is what his important, Cassidy said during a break from sessions at the Republican retreat in downtown Philadelphia.
“People are more optimistic,” about the country’s direction now, he said. “Companies are deciding to build; folks look at him approving the Keystone [XL] pipeline,” Cassidy said. “He said he wanted to create jobs. I think there’s a sense that he’s working hard to create jobs. And I think it’s incredibly positive.”
Cassidy said Trump’s focusing on job creation like a laser. All of the cabinet nominees that Cassidy has interviewed say Trump is encouraging them to prioritize jobs as well.
“When I interview somebody he’s put up” the nominee says, “‘He tells us to go after jobs.’ Next guy: ‘He tells us to go after jobs.’ Next person: ‘How does this regulation affect jobs?’ He is focused on jobs despite this talk” of voter fraud and inauguration crowd size, which “are distractions,” Cassidy said.
