House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday said Congress will need to think about banning gun “bump stocks” after a shooter used the device in Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas.
“I didn’t know what they were until this week and I’m an avid sportsman, so I think we are quickly coming up to speed with what it is,” Ryan told MSNBC’s Hugh Hewitt.
“Fully automatic weapons have been banned for a long time, apparently this allows you to take a semi-automatic turn it into a fully automatic. So, clearly that’s something we need to look into,” Ryan added.
Fifty-eight people were killed and more than 500 others were wounded Sunday night when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on concertgoers on the Las Vegas Strip.
The event has prompted talk with Congress about gun control policies.
