Republicans ready to flip Missouri Senate seat: New poll

Republican Missouri Senate candidate Josh Hawley could take the seat of Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill, according to a new poll.

Hawley has a 3-percentage-point lead on McCaskill among likely Missouri voters, Emerson Polling reported Monday. While 3 percent of Missourians remain undecided, 49 percent support Hawley over the 46 percent who back McCaskill. But the race is still a toss-up, considering as of Monday Hawley only has a 0.5-point advantage on McCaskill in RealClearPolitics’ polling average.

The results of Emerson’s other surveys conducted in battleground states should buoy the hopes of Democrats contesting some of the most competitive races of the 2018 midterm election cycle.

Emerson found Florida’s Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum are 5 points ahead of their Republican opponents in the Sunshine State, while Democratic Nevada Senate hopeful Jacky Rosen has a slimmer 4-point lead over Republican incumbent Dean Heller.

The Arizona Senate race was the tightest match-up examined by Emerson. Democratic Senate candidate Kyrsten Sinema is only 1 point up on Republican challenger Martha McSally, at 49 percent to 48 percent. A small number of voters still don’t know who they intend to cast their ballot for. Sinema is 0.1 percentage point ahead of McSally, according to RealClearPolitics’ poll aggregator.
