Trump touts low gas prices on Fourth of July

President Trump on Tuesday touted the low price of gasoline this Fourth of July as he prepared for a celebration at the White House.

The average national price for a gallon of gas is $2.23 per gallon. The price has not been that low for holiday drivers since July 2005, according to AAA.

“Gas prices are the lowest in the U.S. in over ten years! I would like to see them go even lower,” the president wrote in a tweet.

Tepid demand and increased output of gasoline and crude oil have pushed down prices at the pump, AAA said.

But the holiday low could be a bottom for the summer and could begin climbing again in the coming days, Tom Kloza, an analyst and founder of Oil Price Information Service, told CNN on Monday.

Trump tweeted out holiday wishes to the public just minutes before calling for lower pump prices, saying he was with a big crowd getting ready to celebrate Independence Day.

“Our country will grow and prosper!” he wrote.
