First lady Melania Trump said she wants to keep her son out of the spotlight because he deserves to have a normal childhood, despite the high-profile roles of his parents.
“Children should be off limits. I protect him. I want to give him [as] normal [of a] life as possible. This is not normal life, but I like to protect him and give him the childhood that he deserves,” she told Fox News’ Sean Hannity in an interview that aired Thursday.
She said any focus on her son makes her angry. Twelve-year-old Barron rarely appears in public with his parents.
“He’s very happy. He’s strong. He’s tough. He’s enjoying life in Washington,” she said, revealing that he’s “a fighter” like his father but has a “soft, beautiful heart.”
At an event on combating the opioid crisis last month at Liberty University, Trump said she teaches her son to treat others with respect and kindness.
“That’s very important for me,” she said.
